The first commercials built by the Kromhout Motoren Fabriek D Goedkoop Jnr in the Ketelstraat in Amsterdam comprised of a series of bonnetted trucks but it was not until 1935 when the company acquired a manufacturing licence for British Gardner diesel engines that production really got underway with medium and heavy duty bonnetted trucks and a few passenger models, occasionally with forward control.

By 1939 trucks and tractors for gross loads of up to 30 tons and passenger types of up to 60 passngers were built.

The bonneted goods vehicle range was reintroduced after World War 2 while passenger types were resumed with a forward control 6 cylinder engined single decker.
In 1948 however a chassisless 48 seater was developed in association with NV Auto-Industrie Verheul using a supercharged 6 cylinder deiesel, 5 speed overdrive transmission, power steering and air operated doors. A Year later the company began assembling Leyland vehicles for the Dutch market and a new bus announced by Verheul in 1950 utilised a Kromhout chassis frame.
By 1953 a 10 ton payload forward control rigid goods model with supercharged 8.4 litre 6 cylinder diesel engine located vertically beneath the floor was added to the range and passenger requirments were now catered for by a series of horizontally engined types.

Two years later forward and normal control double drive 6 wheeled trucks were announced using Kirkstall worm drive axles, while a bonneted 6x6 for gross weights of up to 28 tons was developed for oilfield work.
A 97 seat one man operated passenger model also appeared in 1955 with a Leyland diesel engine and pneumocyclic transmission instead of a 6 cylinder Gardner and 2 pedal ZF transmission.
By 1957 some 6x4 trucks were available with optional Rolls Royce engines but in 1959 Kromhout merged with Verheul and by 1961 the name had disappeared completely.
